What Every Young American Should Know and Be Able Able to Do in Music
National Standards For Arts Education

| Review
|
| When the report A Nation at Risk was published in 1983, it served as a national wake-up call. Six national education goals were announced in 1990. With the passage of Goals 2000: Educate America Act, the national goals were written into law, naming the arts as a core academic subject.
The standards listed in this pamphlet were prepared by the Consortium of National Arts Education Associations under grants from the U.S. Department of Education, the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Found herein are separate (1) content standards and (2) achievement standards for Grades K-4, Grades 5-8, and Grades 9-12 in the field of theatre. Every parent should be well acquainted with these standards and discuss them with their children and their children's teachers, as well as encouraging their accomplishment in the home. |
