Music is the art of putting sounds together in beautiful or pleasing arrangements. It involves hearing, reading, and doing. You Can Play Hymns has been written for anyone who desires to learn keyboard skills. Because of its careful and orderly presentation of new concepts, it can be used effectively by young people as well as adults. This course uses hymns as the basic study material. Upon completing this course, it will be possible to play hymns and other music for yourself and for others.

You Can Play Hymns is a "do it yourself " study guide for beginners of any age or a good review for someone who has previously studied music. The course can be taught on either an individual or group basis. A piano, organ, or electronic small keyboard are ideal instruments to use.

Each of the fourteen lessons contain a review of the preceding lesson, new concepts, new music vocabulary, a discussion and exercises for each new concept, review questions, practice instructions, and study aids.

The 26 hymns are arranged in simplified form using basic chords in the keys of C, F, or G. These chords are played by the left hand. The melody is a single line played with the right hand. This method of playing the hymns is effective and will lay a basic foundation for those who may wish to pursue additional music training.
