| Here is the book for anyone who has ever said, "I would love to make my own quilts, but it looks too difficult!" This handy volume gives step-by-step instructions on how to quilt--instructions so detailed that even a novice can easily perform every step, including drafting patterns, making templates, cutting and piecing patches, matching corners, determining quilt patterns, assembling the blocks, making borders and binding and finishing the quilt. The book provides a variety of pattern designs fo one-patch, two-patch, three-patch and four-patch patterns involving squares, rectangles, triangles, diamonds, tumblers, pentagons, hexagons, and other shapes and variations. Of particular value are the many new and traditional patterns for quilts. One-patch patterns include "Sunshine and Shadows," "Trip Around the World," "Many Trips Around the World," "Thousand Pyramids," "Rail Fence," "Fence Posts" and "Quickpatch." Two-patch patterns, which combine pieces cut from two templates include "Dutchman's Puzzle," "Starry Path," "Windmill," "Framed X," "Shoo Fly," "Jacob's Ladder," "Double X," "Year's Favorite," "Puss in the Corner," "Hatchet," "Bowtie," "Pinwheel" and "Hexagon." Three-patch patterns, which are more challenging to prepare, include the "Greek Cross," "Clay's Choice," "Fify-four Forty or Fight," "Churn Dash," "Flying Geese," "Ocean Wave," "Grandmother's Cross" and "Old Maid's Puzzle." The "Combination Star" and "Double T" are among the four-patch patterns provided. A variety of methods for assembling the blocks, quilting with a variety of attractive stitches, making the binding and finishing the corners and borders of the quilt are also explained and illustrated. Color photographs also show many examples of finished quilts, helping the quilter envision how the finished designs will look. Though the designs are challenging, no design is too difficult, even for beginners, because the author brings to her writing many years of extensive quilting experience and years of instructing others in this beautiful handraft art. One-Patch, Two-Patch, Three-Patch,... Four! is an informative, well-written book that will excite and motivate the creativity of all who read it. Share your love for others by giving it as a gift--and don't forget to save a copy for yourself! |
