Scriptural phrases defining the process of being born of God.
The objective of this discussion: present a nine-step formula for spiritual rebirth.
Step 1: Have desire (Alma 22:15-1 8; Enos 2-8).
Step 2: Call upon Christ and ask for his mercy (Alma 36:6-23; Mosiah 27:24-26).
Step 3: Cast off our sins (Alma 13:27-30).
Step 4: Be baptized unto repentance (Alma 7:14-15).
Step 5: Covenant with God to do his will and keep his commandments (Mosiah 5:2-7).
Step 6: Yield to the enticings of the Holy Spirit (Mosiah 3:17-20).
Step 7: Sanctify ourselves (D&C 88:67-68, 74).
Step 8: Receive revelation (D&C 76:114-118).
Step 9: Press forward with a steadfastness in Christ (2 Ne. 31:13,17-21: Moro. 7:40-48).

Summary of the 9-point formula:
Alma: "Brethren of the Church, have ye spiritually been born of God?" (Alma 5:6-21).
Alma: "Could not look upon sin save with abhorrence" (Alma 13:10-12).
Moroni: "Despair cometh because of iniquity" (Mom. 10:20-23).
Moroni's formula for attaining exaltation (Moro. 10:30, 32-33).
