Stranger Danger

Ellen Jackson

Review

This book, written especially for children, contains sensible advice on what to do upon encountering someone they do not know. It explains the difference between "stranger," "acquaintance," and "friend" and tells children how to take the proper precautions in numerous situations.

The author warns of some of the approaches strangers may make toward children, thus increasing their awareness and ability to act accordingly. She also provides useful safety tips, plus guidelines for telephone "smarts."

Stranger Danger informs children of the perils of being on the street and gives helpful advice, as well as instructions, on how to look for "safety places" in areas that are traveled frequently. It also points out the uncertainties of social events and of being home alone, and tells how to recognize and avoid potential sexual abuse before it starts. Throughout the book, quizzes are given to test the child's understanding of the material covered.
