Let's Learn About Tithing

by Jan Clawson

Review

The Lord has promised that the windows of heaven will be opened to the faithful who pay an honest tithe. May Latter-day Saints can testify of the truthfulness of this promise.

Is the commandment of tithing meant only for adult Church members, or does it also apply to young Latter-day Saints? Author Jan Clawson shows us this commandment and its blessings are intended for young and old alike. Let's Learn About Tithing is written to help children of Primary age understand and appreciate this sacred law.

Full of delightful drawings, this book gives a simple history of the tithing principle, including examples from ancient and modern-day Church history, and explains why it is an important part of God's plan for the Saints to pay tithing. Interesting explenations also are given on how tithing funds are processed and on the ways the contributions are spent. The book even shows children how to fill out tithing donation slips and discusses the annual tithing settlements that Bishops hold.

Several pages for the child to complete are also included: a page for the child to record his or her feelings about the commandment, another for comments from family members and others on the importance of tithing, a page to attach an envelope to hold the child's tithing receipts, and a chart on which to keep a tithing payment record.

Jan Clawson, also the author of Baptism: My Promise to Jesus, has created another helpful guide for young Latter-day Saints in Let's Learn About Tithing. It is a valuable book that teaches the tithing principle with simplicity and clarity, in a manner which will motivate children to obey the law and reap its blessings.
