Review
Here is an exciting read-aloud book to be enjoyed by children ages one to six. With her sensitive approach, the author brings to life the deeds of some of the Bible's favorite heroes.
Children of this age, with their vivid imaginations, can live every moment
of these stories as they listen. Now parents can share Bible stories with
their preschoolers in a language level the tots can understand and enjoy.
They'll travel to Egypt and be there at the time when Joseph saved the
land from famine. They'll learn of Moses and feel the excitement as he
leads his people to the promised land and crosses the Red Sea. Tiny tots will emphathize with Hannah as she prays to be able to have
a child, and as she gives her boy Samuel to the Lord. And they'll see
how Samuel is later inspired to choose a king for Israel. They'll feel
the excitement of David's battle with Goliath as his faith lets him overcome
the Philistines. They'll learn how Naaman's leprosy was cured when he
bathed in the River Jordan, in obedience to the prophet Elisha's counsel.
And they'll be swept into the sea as Jonah takes a journey in the belly
of a whale. The children will learn the lessons of obedience and the consequences
of disobedience to God's will.
The author's experience in storytelling and teaching small children make
this a special book that will captivate both parents and children.

For many years Saul was a good and kind king. Then he began to do things
that didn't please our Father in Heaven. Samuel tried to help him, but
he wouldn't listen. Samuel was sad. He knew that Saul would be punished
for all the wrong things he was doing unless he prayed to our Father in
Heaven and asked to be forgiven. Saul didn't; he just did more bad things.
The people found out that Samuel had been right about the things he told
them a king would do. Their king was no longer kind and good to them.
He was the king. He thought he could do anything he wanted, and no one
could stop him. He was wrong!
One day our Father in Heaven told Samuel that He wanted him to anoint
someone else to become king. Samuel wondered where he was to go and who
was to be the new king. Where would they find a man like Saul was when
he first became king? Samuel thought about Saul all the time. Why wouldn't
Saul ask to be forgiven? Why couldn't he change and be like he was at
first? Our Father in Heaven told Samuel to stop being worried about Saul.
He told him to take his special oil and go to Bethlehem to the house where
Jesse lived because he had chosen one of Jesse's sons to be the new king.
Samuel did as he was asked to do.
When he reached Bethlehem he went to see Jesse, and while he was there,
he met seven of Jesse's sons. As he talked to the first son, he said to
himself, "This must be the one I am to anoint, for he is a fine-looking
man:” Our Father in Heaven told Samuel this wasn't the man. He told
Samuel not to look at how handsome a man was nor how tall he was because
that wasn't important. Samuel was looking at the outside of the man.
When we look at someone, we only see the outside, don't we? When our Father
in Heaven looks at us, he looks at what is in our hearts. It is kind of
hard to understand, isn't it? Let's see if I can help you understand what
it means. When you look at your friend you can see what he looks like,
can't you? You can see if he has blue eyes or brown eyes. You can see
if his hair is brown or red or if he is big or little, but can you tell
what he is thinking?
No you can't. Our Father in Heaven can see what we look like, what color
our eyes and hair are, and whether we are tail or short. But He knows
something else about us. He knows how we feel inside. He knows what we
are thinking. He knows whether we feel good or bad, and He knows if we
think about good things or bad things. He knows if we love Him or not.
This is what he was telling Samuel when He said, "The Lord looketh
on the heart.” Jesse's oldest son's thoughts weren't the kind of
thoughts that would make him a good king.
