About Horizon Publishers

HORIZON PUBLISHERS & DISTRIBUTORS, INC. is a family-owned corporation which publishes wholesome, informative books and tapes for a variety of marketplaces. Established in 1971, the company has various product lines in which it has “distinctive competencies” — publishing areas in which it is noted for having a strong offering of products of noteworthy quality.

In the general trade market, these areas include such topics as outdoor life, camping, Dutch-oven and outdoor cooking, cookbooks, outdoor survival skills, food storage, gardening, emergency preparedness, life-after-death and near-death experiences, marriage and family life, and counted cross-stitch designs.

Much of Horizon’s religious publishing is directed to members of the Latter-day Saint faith, though the company is privately owned and a completely independent organization —it is not an “official outlet” or “spokesman” for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the LDS Church does not exercise any control or supervision of what Horizon Publishers produces or publishes.

Some books the firm produces are for the general marketplace, including books on marriage, family life, raising and teaching children, Bible studies, and comparative religions.

As in the general trade marketplace, Horizon Publishers has distinctive competencies in the LDS marketplace, including scriptural studies, books on doctrine, missionary items, defense-of-the-faith books and tapes, wholesome fiction, food storage and emergency readiness products, self-help books, near-death and life-after-death studies, angels, prophecy and the last days, inspirational counted cross-stitch (including designs of almost all of the Mormon temples), Latter-day Saint and Utah history, etc.

Horizon Publishers & Distributors, Inc. primarily distributes its products on a wholesale basis to bookstores and specialty outlets, both nationwide and overseas. It also operates this internet bookstore, servicing customers locally and worldwide on a retail basis. Horizon Publishers has more than 500 books, tapes, sewn products, and specialty items in its product line.

The Editorial Board of Horizon Publishers seeks products that will lift, inspire, inform, and entertain its readers. Horizon publishes 20-30 new titles per year, selecting its new releases from the hundreds of queries and manuscripts it receives annually. Some of its books are written by authors with special areas of expertise, who write at the request of Horizon Publishers' editorial board.

The corporate offices and retail shipping warehouse of Horizon Publishers are located in beautiful Bountiful, Utah, overlooking the Great Salt Lake. Bountiful is ten miles north of Salt Lake City, in southern Davis County.

The development of a major shopping mall impacted Horizon Publishers several years ago because a brand-new Costco was constructed where Horizon's printing and distribution facilities have been located for more than 25 years. Rather than purchase a new building, Horizon Publishers opted to merge with Cedar Fort, Inc. Under the present arrangement, CFI is distributing all Horizon Publishers' products to stores and other wholesale-level accounts, while Horizon Publishers continues to fill retail orders received by internet, telephone, etc. at their Bountiful offices.

In a unique arrangement between the two companies, as existing supplies of each book Horizon Publishers has published is exhausted, CFI has the option to reprint the book and acquire ownership of the product at that time. When three-quarters of all Horizon Publishers' products have thus been acquired, CFI will assume ownership of Horizon Publishers. Under the present arrangement, new titles published by Horizon Publishers are being released as books from "Horizon Publishers, an imprint of Cedar Fort, Inc."
